Submission to the 2025 IGA-x-Unity game jam under the theme of "Potatoes"

For some reason, the factory manager decided to send potatoes of all things down to the factory floor. Set up the factory to get them the products that they want before your shift ends!

But be warned! Lazy Dave is a notorious couch potato and can only move around the machines that are close to his couch! Thankfully friendly coworker Gary has offered to help out a bit at the start of each of shift!

At some point, Dave decides that he has a better use for all these potatoes..

Controls:

LMB (or hotkeys 1-8) to select machines from the toolbar

LMB to place machines, or pick them up off the factory floor with an empty hand

YOU CAN ALSO PICK UP THE COUCH WHEN ITEMS ARE NOT COMING IN!

Click the held machine in the toolbar to get an empty hand

R (or middle mouse button) to rotate held held machine clockwise

SHIFT + R (or middle mouse button)  to rotate held machine counter-clockwise

SPACEBAR to view the recipe sheet (also pauses the shift timer)

ESC to pause

Known problems:

If you click on the 'menu' button in the top right and the game freezes, try playing in full screen, or zooming out your browser window. (itch in-browser only problem)

Very ambitious to make a factory game for a jam! I found the controls finicky, though, which made it tough--for instance, it was hard to tell where the machines were going to place, and I couldn't make picking up placed tiles work.

(1 edit)

It was indeed ambitious, but I think we got the game to a good place given the time constraint!

We had at one point wanted to implement a cell highlight thing, where the cell that the mouse is on top of would be highlighted to show the player exactly where machines would be placed. Sadly, we didn't get around to making that happen.

Odd that you couldn't get picking up to work.. The way the game works is that during prep time, you can manipulate the entire factory, but while items are coming in you can only manipulate tiles that are within 3 tiles of the couch. Maybe that was the problem? To pick up machines/belts, you just need to left click on them.

In any event, thanks for the feedback! Hope you had fun! Feel free to ask if you have any other problems with the game and I'll do my best to help you out!

Oh yeah, also, this was a 5 day jam, not a 48 hour jam, so that helped a lot.
